Yahsat and Telespazio, a joint venture between Leonardo- Finmeccanica (67%) and Thales (33%), have entered into a five-year contract for integrated satellite services using Ka-band.

This landmark service will be delivered via Yahsat’s upcoming Al Yah 3 satellite, launching in 2017, which will cover over 95 per cent of Brazil’s population across more than 5,000 municipalities.

Under the agreement, Telespazio will provide satellite connectivity and IP solutions for its customers, using a combination of Ka-band capacity on Al Yah 3 coupled with state of the art ground segment infrastructure. The services will be offered via gateways in Brazil to maximize performance and availability.

Commenting on the new contract, Yahsat’s Chief Strategy Officer Amit Somani said: “Brazil is an exciting and key market for Yahsat and we are delighted to be working with an industry leader such as Telespazio as part of our expansion in to this dynamic market. The partnership will allow Telespazio customers in Brazil to benefit from much better performance at much lower prices compared to legacy solutions.”

About the collaboration and the consolidation of the company’s presence in the Brazilian market, Marzio Laurenti, Country Manager Brazil for Telespazio, said: ¨Our current offer to the corporate, institutional and telecom markets is based on C, Ku and L satellite bands. Yahsat’s technology in Ka-band fits and complements Telespazio Brasil’s service portfolio, and will allow us to meet the increasing bandwidth demand with the necessary price competitiveness.¨

The partnership with Telespazio is another step for Yahsat to further solidify its market entry strategy and helps position the company as the go-to satellite provider for Ka-band connectivity in Brazil. Post launch of Al Yah 3, Yahsat will offer a range of services on HTS Ka-band including high-speed, affordable satellite broadband for consumers and SMEs, as well as high data rate backhaul links for internet service providers and telecommunications operators. Yahsat is already a pioneer of Ka-band solutions across the world, having launched services across Africa, the Middle East and South West Asia in 2012, and will extend its coverage to over 1 billion people with the launch of Al Yah 3.
