Telespazio’s Lario Space Centre has obtained World Teleport Association certification

31 October 2023

The World Teleport Association (WTA) announced today that Telespazio has obtained Level 4 certification (the highest) for its Space Centre in Lario, in the province of Como.

The teleport certification programme of the WTA, an association founded in 1985, is a particularly valuable tool for teleport operators and their customers alike. Certification is granted using an objective, transparent and internationally recognised method for documenting the quality of this type of infrastructure.

"We are extremely proud of this new prestigious certification, which adds to the two already achieved by the Fucino Space Centre in 2018 and 2021. This result underscores our commitment to providing excellent satellite solutions and services to our customers and reaffirms the Lario Teleport as a cornerstone in our operations."

Gabriele Pieralli, Telespazio's Chief Operating Officer.

The Lario Space Centre, operational since 1977, covers a total area of 80,000 square metres and hosts 40 transceiver and 20 receiver antennas. The Centre guarantees the operational management of television connections by monitoring access to the space segment and managing the up-link systems (fixed and mobile) for the television services of the major national and international broadcasters. Telecommunications networks for corporate and institutional users are managed from Lario, as are Customer Care/Help Desk services for infomobility connections for mobile vehicles and boats (European coverage) and navigation and messaging services (global coverage). The in-orbit satellite control and space data acquisition sectors use the Lario Centre as an Earth station for second and third generation Meteosat satellites.

Telespazio relies on a domestic and international network of space centres and teleports, the most important being the Fucino Space Centre in the Abruzzo region (Italy). Telespazio also operates in Italy through its Lario, Matera and Scanzano space centres. The company runs its own teleports in Brazil, Argentina and Romania.
