Telespazio delivers emergency communication for flood risk areas

22 September 2021

Telespazio Germany will supply and install, as part of a cross-border project in Germany, France and Switzerland, satellite communication systems at 25 government sites in the Upper Rhine area.

Telespazio will equip regional councils, prefectures, disaster control, military and population protection departments, district offices, city councils, police stations and fire brigades in all three Countries. The systems will provide simultaneous voice communications and data services for applications like web browsing and email without the need of any terrestrial infrastructure.

Storms, heavy rain, floods and other natural disasters regularly damage infrastructures and put landline telephones and mobile communications out of action. This happens at exactly the worst time when disaster relief forces are in urgent need of reliable communication systems.

This kind emergency communication can be guaranteed by reliable and satellite communication.

Telespazio is a leader in developing communication systems for various purposes, having done so for the last 60 years. Our activities in public infrastructure include air traffic control, mobile connectivity, broadband connectivity and systems for emergency communications.

"The recent devastating floods have only further underscored the need for such systems. Telespazio's systems will serve many communities, and ensure that rescue and relief efforts are easier to coordinate and that rescue forces and support forces can stay connected in these area at all times. It is of particular concern to make an effective contribution to civil protection in the countries of Germany, France and Switzerland through the delivery of crisis-proof communication systems".

Stefan Gramolla, Head of Division Secure Connectivity and Integration at Telespazio Germany.
