The Digital Transformation Department of Roma Capitale has commissioned a consortium, led by Almaviva, as the Prime Contractor, and comprising e-GEOS - a joint venture between the Italian Space Agency (20%) and Telespazio (Leonardo Group, 80%) - Intellera Consulting, Geosystems and Tecninf, for the management and innovation of several Roma Capitale IT systems, including GeoRoma.
The three-year contract provides for the development of a technologically advanced platform that enables access to an interconnected ecosystem of geospatial data.
e-GEOS will be responsible for implementing innovative databases powered by satellite and aerial data, radar and optical, which will provide key information for a series of decision-making processes related to land management. These include very high-resolution orthophotos, the Digital Twin of the Earth's surface, the mapping of green areas, the identification of priority areas for intervention in zones showing greater thermal anomalies in relation to heat waves, the ex-post analysis of critical climatic events and the management of major events.
Through the GeoRoma platform it will be possible to easily access and navigate the rich heritage of territorial information and geospatial data acquired and produced within the Departments of Roma Capitale for use by the Administration, public and private operators and private citizens, according to the logic of Open Data. GeoRoma's state-of-the-art infrastructure and innovative services will also form the cartographic basis of the Smart City Plan and the Digital Twin of Roma Capitale.
"Space is now a strategic ally for cities: the analysis of satellite data enables the development of smart solutions to interpret the growing complexity of urban contexts, simplify their daily management and effectively address global challenges related to sustainable development and climate resilience", comments Milena Lerario, CEO of e-GEOS. "At e-GEOS, in line with Leonardo Group’s vision, which has placed significant emphasis in its industrial plan on investments in Earth Observation and the convergence with digital technologies, we are strongly committed to the development of innovative technological tools to support citizens and administrations. We are pleased and proud to put our skills and know-how at the service of Roma Capitale, contributing to its urban and sustainable transformation”.
