Launch of the Honors Program at the Fucino Space Centre: training young talent for the space sector

04 June 2025

The Honors Program of the Space Camp – Dai Banchi alle stelle project officially kicked off today at Telespazio’s Fucino Space Centre. The initiative, supported by the Fondo per la Repubblica Digitale – Impresa Sociale, is promoted by Italiacamp and developed in collaboration with Telespazio, Innovalley, and three high schools in the Abruzzo region: “Alessandro Volta” (Pescara), “Luigi Savoia” (Chieti), and “Ettore Majorana” (Avezzano), with scientific input from the British Interplanetary Society.

The project aims to train and inspire young students to pursue careers in the aerospace and STEM sectors. During the opening event, attended by institutional and school representatives as well as company leadership, speakers highlighted Telespazio’s commitment to local development through education and talent development.

The most anticipated moment was the start of the Honors Program: a specialized training path for 30 highly motivated students selected from over 200 participants. The program includes 90 hours of advanced training, half of which are practical laboratory sessions held in the course room of the Fucino Space Centre Museum.

Running until December 2025, the project offers a hands-on introduction to space systems and cutting-edge technologies. For Telespazio, it’s also a strategic investment in nurturing future professionals in a rapidly growing sector.

“Telespazio is not only about technology and infrastructure, it’s about building connections, knowledge, and taking educational responsibility. Supporting young people and strengthening ties with the Abruzzo region is part of our mission.”

Maurizio Betta, Head of People & Organization at Telespazio.

With Space Camp, we bring a real opportunity into Abruzzo’s schools—connecting students to the most innovative STEM disciplines and preparing them for high-specialization careers in the space industry.”

Luigi Mazza, General Director of Italiacamp.
