The Leonardo Group brings its excellence and innovation in Earth Observation to Australia

Leonardo, through e-GEOS, will introduce its high value-added Earth Observation solutions to the Australian and Indo-Pacific markets. The adoption of the most advanced geospatial technologies in the region will contribute to strengthening national resilience, environmental monitoring and digital transformation processes.

Leonardo already has a well-established presence and has been providing cutting-edge technological solutions in Australia since 1985. Today, it plays a key role in the Australian defence industry, supported by constant investment and the strengthening of its industrial presence with operational sites in Melbourne, Perth and Nowra.

To support the expansion of its Earth Observation solutions offering, the Leonardo Group, through its subsidiary Leonardo Australia, has acquired new expertise dedicated to promoting these capabilities in the region. This will allow for a targeted approach to addressing the region's priorities, particularly in the areas of natural emergency management, sustainable development, critical infrastructure monitoring and national security.

e-GEOS and Leonardo Australia will undertake a series of initiatives in 2025 as part of the Space Division's roadmap, collaborating with key authorities and research institutions, Australian SMEs and companies, universities and indigenous organisations to jointly develop innovative Earth Observation applications. They will also attend upcoming forums in the space and defence sectors with the aim of strengthening relations and developing tailor-made services for Australia and the Pacific region.

Towards the Digital Twin of Italian Soil

Leonardo, through e-GEOS, a company owned by the Italian Space Agency (20%) and Telespazio (80%), will support the Department for Sustainable Development (DiSS) of the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) in the development of a Digital Twin of the Italian territory. The initiative falls under PNRR investment M2C4 I.1.1, which focuses on the development of an advanced monitoring and forecasting system. This high-resolution digital model of the terrain, built using airborne laser surveys (LiDAR) and aerogravimetric data, will serve as a strategic asset for understanding the morphology of the land and will lay the foundation for future Digital Twins capable of simulating and further studying its behaviour.
