e-GEOS, company owned by the Italian Space Agency (20%) and Telespazio (80%, Leonardo group), has been appointed by the European Space Agency (ESA) as Prime Contractor of the consortium in charge of developing technological solutions for civil Earth Observation to improve the understanding of fragility in developing areas.

The project, called "Enhanced methods for EO and open-source information exploitation in fragile settings assessment", will support the development cooperation programmes of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation & Development), EIB (European Investment Bank) and ADB (Asian Development Bank).

The consortium, led by e-GEOS, includes Adelphi, Cherrydata, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Hensoldt Analytics, Janes and MindEarth.

The European Space Agency project aims to strengthen data availability through the development of Geoinformation solutions collecting and processing information at the regional and local levels, to support more informed decision-making processes. These applications represent a crucial resource in this context, permitting data acquisition even in areas where access to reliable information from other sources may be limited or difficult.

Through a multi-source approach, international organisations will benefit from innovative indicators for more accurate and timely assessment of fragility and resilience at the local and regional levels.

e-GEOS confirms its role in the European Space Agency's programmes for use of Geoinformation solutions for development operations. In the same context, the company recently led and successfully completed the Fragility, Conflict and Security activity performed under the ESA’s Global Development Assistance (GDA) Programme, providing information on environmental degradation, land grabbing and displacement dynamics. The project supported international financial institutions such as the World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

"e-GEOS is strongly committed to international cooperation programmes", comments Milena Lerario, CEO of e-GEOS. "Geospatial solutions represent a strategic resource promoting sustainable development in emerging nations. Collaboration between industry, institutions and international organisations offers an opportunity to create synergies on a global scale, allowing us to concretely and effectively address shared challenges."
