Telespazio and the University of Bologna Receive a Prestigious Award from Geospatial World

22 September 2023

Telespazio and Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna have been honored with the prestigious Geobuiz Innovation Award from Geospatial World in the Industry - Academia Engagement Award category.

The award, presented yesterday in Brussels during the GeoBuiz Europe Summit 2023, celebrates the significant contribution of Telespazio and the University of Bologna to the academic and research space community through their collaboration in the Master SPICES program.

The Master SPICES represents an important international initiative in training and research promoted by the University of Bologna, with active support from Telespazio. This program combines academic excellence with practical experience in all the fundamental elements of a space mission, from its initial conception to the utilization of data obtained from satellites, including geospatial aspects.

The Master program is conducted in English and has been designed to prepare students to successfully address the complex challenges of the global space sector, offering high-quality training that integrates theory and practice.

Pier Francesco Cardillo, Head of Commercial Development - RPAS & UTM at Telespazio, received the Geobuiz Innovation Award from Ingrid Vanden Berghe, Administrator General, National Geographic Institute in Belgium.

"This recognition is a tangible testament to Telespazio's dedication to promoting innovation and development in the space industry, leveraging collaboration with the academic world. We are honored to have been recognized for our commitment to training highly qualified professionals and promoting knowledge in the space sector". Marco Brancati, CTIO of Telespazio

"The prestigious recognition awarded by Geospatial World is further evidence of the University of Bologna's strong commitment to innovation and development in the space sector. Expanding knowledge, skills, and research work in this field is our priority, as demonstrated by the success of the Master SPICES, created in collaboration with various public and private partners. The remarkable employment rate of 95% achieved within six months of completing the program highlights the crucial role of this program: bridging the gap between academic education and the job market in the space sector". Andrea Cimatti, Director of the Department of Physics and Astronomy "Augusto Righi" at the University of Bologna and Master SPICES

This award further strengthens their shared commitment to excellence in research, continuous innovation, and the training of future leaders in the space sector.

Telespazio and the University of Bologna will continue to work together to make a significant contribution to the evolution of the global space community.
