Here is the #T-TeC - Telespazio Technology Contest 2020. An even more "Open" edition

17 July 2020

Once again in 2020 the #T-TeC - Telespazio Technology Contest is back. Telespazio's Open Innovation initiative, to valorise university research endeavours, and promote development and innovation. This year it is open to students throughout Europe as well.

This is an opportunity to valorise your ideas and insights while, at the same time, being part of the innovation process at a large company, like Telespazio.

This is the ambitious goal set for the second edition of the #T-TeC - the Telespazio Technology Contest – an Open Innovation initiative open to students, both graduates and undergraduates, to promote technological development and innovation among the younger generations. This project is part of the Leonardo Group's larger “Idea Factory”.

After last year's first edition, that only involved Italian Universities, in 2020 the #T-TeC has become even more “Open” to include students from European universities who are taking part in the initiative. In all, 32 departments have accepted the #T-TeC challenge, made up of 20 Universities in 15 different European cities.

“This is an opportunity to once again spread a culture of technology and involve ever more young innovators in the world of space, by getting their paths to cross that of our large industrial sector, in order to facilitate mutual growth”.

Marco Brancati, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer of Telespazio

How to take part in #T-Tec

In line with Telespazio and the Leonardo Group's characteristic Open Innovation approach, participation in T-TeC is open to all students - graduates and under graduates, doctorate students and researchers - from the Universities and departments involved in the initiative.

Each participant, whether they be an individual or a group, may submit their project by not later than 31st October 2020, by sending their work to: proposals.ttec@telespazio.com

Once again, this year there are numerous technological themes on which the contest's contestants may submit ideas and insights:

  • Geo-information platforms and applications

  • Ground Segment and Ground-as-a-Service (GaaS)

  • Autonomous and unmanned aircraft systems

  • Hybrid communication

  • Cybersecurity in a space environment

  • Space exploration

  • In-orbit services

  • Quantum communications

  • Space Traffic Management & Space Domain Awareness

The ideas proposed may count on two different categories of prizes:

  • Photon” for ideas that bring about significant progress in a technology or particular scientific setting in the aerospace sector.

  • the “Light” category, on the other hand, covers ideas and innovations that focus particularly on integrating ground and space structures, to develop systems able to promote new solutions or innovative services.

Once the proposals have been gathered, a Jury will meet in November, made up of representatives from Telespazio, Leonardo, the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the European Space Agency (ESA), to assess the ideas submitted.

At an awards ceremony to be held at the end of November, the Jury will announce the winners in the two categories – at stake are Euro 10,000 to be shared among those involved - and will announce two special mentions for the projects most worthy of merit.

Should the winning or special mention ideas be particularly innovative, Telespazio may help with subsequent development, thereby helping the project to go forward.

Good luck to all participants, we'll see you at the awards ceremony!
