Telespazio and YAHSAT sign ka-band satellite capacity agreement in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro  30 November 2016

Telespazio and Yahsat have entered into a five-year contract for integrated satellite services using Ka-band. This landmark service will be delivered via Yahsat’s upcoming Al Yah 3 satellite, launching in 2017, which will cover over 95 per cent of Brazil’s population across more than 5,000 municipalities.

Under the agreement, Telespazio will provide satellite connectivity and IP solutions for its customers, using a combination of Ka-band capacity on Al Yah 3 coupled with state of the art ground segment infrastructure. The services will be offered via gateways in Brazil to maximize performance and availability.

Commenting on the new contract, Yahsat’s Chief Strategy Officer Amit Somani said: “Brazil is an exciting and key market for Yahsat and we are delighted to be working with an industry leader such as Telespazio as part of our expansion in to this dynamic market. The partnership will allow Telespazio customers in Brazil to benefit from much better performance at much lower prices compared to legacy solutions.”

About the collaboration and the consolidation of the company’s presence in the Brazilian market, Marzio Laurenti, Country Manager Brazil for Telespazio, said: ¨Our current offer to the corporate, institutional and telecom markets is based on C, Ku and L satellite bands. Yahsat’s technology in Ka-band fits and complements Telespazio Brasil’s service portfolio, and will allow us to meet the increasing bandwidth demand with the necessary price competitiveness.¨

Telespazio has a long track record in the telecommunications sector and has a portfolio of cutting-edge products and services. The company manages communications networks that integrate satellite and terrestrial solutions to effectively respond to the needs of businesses and institutes.

In Brazil, Leonardo-Finmeccanica boasts an almost twenty-year presence in the space sector, through its subsidiary Telespazio Brasil, a leading provider of satellite services on the Brazilian market. Present in the country since 1997, it is headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, the city where its satellite services centre operates, and can count on its widespread presence throughout the country. The company offers innovative solutions in the field of satellite telecommunications, multimedia services, images and applications for Earth observation, satellite navigation, as well as turnkey satellite ground systems.

The partnership with Telespazio is another step for Yahsat to further solidify its market entry strategy and helps position the company as the go-to satellite provider for Ka-band connectivity in Brazil.
