Matera: Minister Fioramonti and a delegation from Italy for Expo 2020 Dubai visit the Mediterranea exhibition

Matera  21 October 2019

On Saturday 19th October, the Minister of Education, University and Research, Lorenzo Fioramonti, visited the "Mediterranea - Visions of an Ancient and Complex Sea" exhibition by the Italian Space Agency and Telespazio in Matera. The next day, a delegation from Italy for Expo 2020 Dubai led by Mr Paolo Glisenti, the General Commissioner, visited the exhibition.

Minister Fioramonti was accompanied in his visit by Luigi Pasquali, CEO of Telespazio, Darko Grillo, General Manager of the Italian Space Agency, Salvatore D'Adduce and Paolo Verri, President and General Director of the Matera 2019 Foundation, Marta Ragozzino, directress of the Basilicata Museum Complex, and by Viviana Panaccia, the curatrix of the exhibition.

On Sunday 20th October, at the end of the presentation ceremony of the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 to be held in Dubai, Telespazio and ASI welcomed a delegation of Italy for Expo 2020 Dubai led by Paolo Glisenti, the General Commissioner, at the National Archaeological Museum, home of the Mediterranea exhibition.

The "Mediterranea - Visions of an Ancient and Complex Sea" exhibition, an integral part of the program of Matera European Capital of Culture 2019, was promoted, under the patronage of Mibact (Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities), by the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation and by the Basilicata Museum Complex together with the Italian Space Agency and Telespazio.

"Mediterranea" intends to tell the history, the beauty, the populations and the myths of this marine continent, as well as the hazards and the conflicts threatening it today. The exhibition itinerary offered to visitors represents, in fact, the Mediterranean in all its complexity, through the narration of its history with unpublished satellite images, elaborated by e-GEOS, photos, videos and site-specific installations of extraordinary emotional impact, in a perfect synthesis between science and art, between past and present.

The exhibition, inaugurated last 19th September at the “Domenico Ridola” National Archaeological Museum in Matera, will remain open until 20th January 2020.
