Telespazio attends Satellite 2015

Washington D.C.  13 March 2015

Telespazio will attend the Satellite 2015 Conference and Exhibition dedicated to the world of communications and satellite services to be held in Washington D.C. (USA), from 16 to 19 March.

Telespazio, a joint venture between Finmeccanica (67%) and Thales (33%), and Thales Alenia Space will be present at the show in Washington with a joint stand, which will present the main activities in the field of space systems and services.

In particular, Telespazio presents its activities in the field of satellite operations offered through its network of space centres and teleports: launch services, early orbit and spacecraft testing (LEOP, TT&C and IOT), as well as the management of the satellites' operating life. For 50 years now, the company has been providing space agencies and international operators services that cover all phases of space missions. In 2014 Telespazio joined the World Teleport Association (WTA) as "Industry Patron Member".

In the field of satellite communications, Telespazio presents at Satellite 2015 the services developed for tactical military satellite communications (Milsatcom) thanks to its involvement in the Italian programme SICRAL and the Franco-Italian programme ATHENA-FIDUS. Telespazio participated with a significant share in the funding of the missions related to the satellites Sicral 1B (launched in 2009) and Sicral 2, whose launch is scheduled for April 2015, thus consolidating its role as satellite operator in the defence sector. The company has access to part of the transmission capacity of the Sicral 1B satellite, with which it provides telecommunications services to the Armed Forces of the NATO member countries. Telespazio will have a similar role in the Sicral 2 programme.

At the exhibition, Telespazio will show a model of "Field Unit" with Flysat 960k antenna, used to operate on commercial satellites in Ku-band and Ka-band and on military satellites in X-band.

Also in the telecommunications field, Telespazio presents services related to VSAT networks (corporate) able to interconnect, through the use of satellites and terrestrial links, a large number of remote sites. The company currently manages about 50,000 terminals, located mainly in Europe and Latin America.

Finally, in Washington Telespazio presents Inmarsat's GlobalXpress (GX) broadband communications satellite service, for which the company is a Value Added Reseller in both the institutional market and the corporate sector.
