The new frontiers of SAR systems

28 April 2021

Friday, April 30 was held e-GEOS and the new frontiers of Radar based applications, a webinar focusing on e-GEOS’s SAR solutions made possible by combining data from the COSMO-SkyMed and SAOCOM constellations.

The meeting, participation in which is free of charge after registration, will provide a chance to take stock of the new, innovative possibilities opened up by combining data from the two constellations which are also part of SIASGE (Sistema Italo Argentino de Satélites para la Gestión de Emergencias), a joint project by the Argentinian Space Agency CONAE and the Italian Space Agency ASI.

e-GEOS has the exclusive distribution rights to data from the Italian first- and second-generation COSMO-SkyMed constellation, and has recently signed an agreement with VENG for the worldwide marketing - exclusively in some countries - of data from the Argentinian SAOCOM satellites.

The two constellations have highly complimentary characteristics. The combination of COSMO-SkyMed, in X-band, and SAOCOM, in L-band, which has lower resolution but a higher temporal coherence, ensures the availability of high-quality data for different applications such as the identification of natural resources, interferometry and ice research.

The orbital configuration of the two missions, furthermore, enables the same subject to be acquired in X-band and L-band only 14 minutes apart, giving e-GEOS unique analysis capabilities.

Finally, the combined operability of the four first-generation COSMO-SkyMed satellites, the first of the two second-generation COSMO-SkyMed satellites, and the two SAOCOM satellites doubles the daily coverage capacity of these constellations, providing outstanding revisit rates for specific operational needs.
