From Galicia to Andalusia, two new contracts for Telespazio Ibérica

07 October 2022

Telespazio Ibérica, together with Airbus and Babcock, signed a partnership agreement with the Xunta de Galicia, the Galician regional government.

This partnership, which includes 283 million euros of public-private investment and the creation of four hundred jobs by 2026, will boost forty research and development projects in driverless systems.

Telespazio and Babcock will be responsible for developing a joint programme mobilising 40.6 million euros. In particular, the project will focus on developing autonomous driving technologies for the management, surveillance and monitoring of biodiversity.

The agreement with the Xunta de Galicia closely follows another with IECA, the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia, of the Andalusian Regional Government.

Telespazio Ibérica will generate four ultra-high-resolution mosaics from the Copernicus programme's Sentinel-2 mission data acquired in winter 2021, spring 2022, summer 2022 and autumn 2022.

The company will also train IECA staff to acquire expertise in the basics of satellite remote sensing, satellite band interpretation, analysis software, analytical image composition, radiometric correction and export in TIFF and equivalent formats.

It will also develop a methodological guide for accessing and using the Copernicus programme's primary services. This activity will enable IECA to use existing information in Copernicus better, thus improving its mapping processes and products.
