Renewed Assignment to Telespazio and e-GEOS for the Operational Management of the COSMO-SkyMed Satellite System of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Ministry of Defence

06 October 2025

Telespazio, as lead company of the Temporary Business Grouping (RTI) with its subsidiary e-GEOS (a joint venture between Telespazio and ASI) as partner, has been awarded the renewal of the Operational Management and Maintenance in Operational Conditions (MCO) activities of the COSMO-SkyMed satellite system, the Earth observation radar programme owned by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Ministry of Defence.

With the signing of an Additional Act, ASI has also entrusted Telespazio and e-GEOS with the operational management of the two COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation satellites currently in orbit.

The contract includes corrective and evolutionary maintenance of the systems in operation, the management of ground infrastructures and satellite in-orbit operations from Telespazio’s “Piero Fanti” Space Centre in Fucino, the management of the civil segment for image exploitation at ASI’s Space Geodesy Centre in Matera, and technical support to the Italian Ministry of Defence’s Joint Satellite Remote Sensing Centre in Pratica di Mare for activities related to National Security and Defence.

The industrial team also includes Thales Alenia Space Italia, appointed by ASI as subcontractor for technical and engineering support to the flight segment.

This new contract represents the natural continuation of the MCO activities that Telespazio has successfully carried out since 2013, ensuring continuity and innovation for one of the most strategic space programmes for Italy and for Europe.
