The visit to the site’s infrastructure and large antennas gave participants the opportunity to gain a closer understanding of the technologies and activities that contribute every day to the delivery of communication services and the success of space missions.
The initiative also provided an opportunity to support PizzAutObus Valtellina, a project by PizzAut that promotes the employment inclusion of autistic people, recognising and enhancing their skills and talents. The pizzas prepared and served by the young people involved in the PizzAutObus project brought to life the values of connection, participation and equal opportunities.
The presence of local institutions also provided an important opportunity for dialogue with the local community, reaffirming the role of the Lario Space Centre not only as a centre of technological excellence, but also as an organisation committed to the community and the area in which it operates.
Operational since 1977, the Centre covers an area of 80,000 square metres on the northern shores of Lake Como and hosts more than 60 antennas dedicated to satellite transmission and reception services. A strategic infrastructure for telecommunications and television broadcasting, it also operates as a ground station for third-generation Meteosat satellites, contributing to the collection of data used for weather forecasting and climate monitoring.
