Telespazio Welcomes the Winners of the NASA Space Apps Challenge Rome 2024 at the Fucino Space Centre

27 November 2024

The Fucino Space Centre, operated by Telespazio, hosted the winning teams of the NASA Space Apps Challenge Rome 2024 today. This international hackathon, promoted by NASA and organized locally with the support of prestigious partners, including the U.S. Embassy in Rome, brought together creative minds to tackle space-related challenges.

As a sponsor of this year’s event, Telespazio actively participated in the challenge, contributing as a jury member and offering an exclusive prize: a visit to the Fucino Space Centre, one of the largest and most advanced satellite telecommunications infrastructures in the world.

During the visit, the winning teams—U.P.I.G., AgriXplore, and Emiscan—were recognized for their innovative projects focused on space data analysis, sustainable agricultural resource management, and environmental emissions monitoring, respectively. The participants, coming from diverse backgrounds, included high school students, professionals from various industries, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) enthusiasts.

The visit provided a unique opportunity to explore the strategic role of the Fucino Space Centre in the space industry. Attendees experienced hands-on demonstrations of satellite control services, telecommunications management, and Earth observation applications. Representing Telespazio at the event were Gianni Riccobono, Head of Operations and Director of the Fucino Space Centre, and Riccardo Maccallini, Head of Antennas Maintenance.

Also in attendance were Aldo Pergjergji and Maddalena Cuozzo, President and Vice President of Mindsharing Tech, the organization that managed the challenge.

The event highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry and young talent, offering a tangible glimpse into the future possibilities of space technologies.
