Telespazio receives the Wta's "Independent Teleport Operator Of The Year" award

Telespazio has won the “Independent Teleport Operator of the Year” prize, awarded by the World Teleport Association (WTA).  The ceremony for the “Teleport Awards for Excellence” was held in Washington D.C. today during Satellite, the conference and exhibition devoted to world communications and satellite services.

The award was collected by Luigi Pasquali, Leonardo’s Space Activity Coordinator and Telespazio CEO, who said: “The award as the best independent teleport operator, given to us by the WTA fills us with pride, and represents recognition of the excellent role played by Telespazio for more than 50 years in the space operations sector”.

Telespazio operates worldwide through a network of space centres and teleports. Among them, the most important is the Fucino Space Centre, 130 km from Rome, that, with a surface area of 370,000 square meters, 172 operating antenna, 22 control rooms (of which 5 are manned 24/7), is one of the largest teleports for civil purposes, in the world.

The Fucino Space Centre carries out in-orbit satellite control and telecommunications, television and multimedia services. Fucino hosts the Control Centre of the COSMO-SkyMed Earth observation satellite constellation and one of the Control Centres that manage the European Galileo satellite positioning and navigation system.

In Italy, Telespazio also operates through its Lario, Matera, and Scanzano Space Centres, located respectively in the regions of Lombardy, Basilicata, and Sicily. The company runs its own teleports in Brazil, Argentina, and Romania. Telespazio’s staff operates also out of clients’ facilities and teleports worldwide, providing operational support for space operations, maintenance and site management.

Founded in 1985, the World Teleport Association represents the interests of teleport operators in the global satellite telecommunications market, with the aim of promoting excellence in the industry. The association unites the greatest innovators among the world's teleport operators from independent. Telespazio joined the WTA in 2014, as an “Industry Patron Member”.
