Telespazio and e-GEOS present the Love Planet Earth 2023 calendar

16 November 2022 12:00

Eyes trained on the world from up above, protecting fragile and uncontaminated areas from the dangers of pollution and climate change.

All this lies in the images of Love Planet Earth, the calendar of Telespazio (Leonardo 67%, Thales 33%)  and e-GEOS (Telespazio 80%, Italian Space Agency 20%). Now in its 15th year, the calendar features satellite images froma twelve UNESCO World Heritage sites.

This initiative is part of the broader commitment of Leonardo, Telespazio and e-GEOS to issues of environmental sustainability and human protection. A focus that stems from an awareness of the close link between the space sector and the protection of the Planet and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.

From Tanzania to Kazakhstan, and from Senegal to Argentina, Love Planet Earth 2023 offers a spectacular view of a number of unique places that must be preserved for future generations. The calendar images were acquired by satellites of the COSMO-SkyMed radar constellation of the Italian Space Agency and the Ministry of Defense, a key ally in achieving UNESCO's mission. In its background mission activities (when the satellite is not working on acquiring specific targets) COSMO- SkyMed aims to monitor World Heritage sites, enabling crucial data, imagery and analysis to preserve these areas of the Earth and detect damage caused by human action at an early stage.

Love Planet Earth is an initiative that has become increasingly concrete over the years, with the organization of exhibitions, events and the creation of the calendar with the aim of raising awareness of sustainability issues. The goal is also pursued by the choice of materials used to produce the calendar. The base in fact is in 100% recycled cardboard, while the pages are in “stone paper”, a material that is photodegradable with 12 months of sunlight exposure. A small but necessary act of kindness towards our Planet.

This year it will also be possible to download not just the full version of the calendar from the Telespazio and e-GEOS websites, but also the pages of each individual month, to use as your desktop wallpaper.
