The Space Security Workshop “Lo
Spazio per la protezione delle fonti
del Valore” will take place on
Monday 12 October at the Fucino Space
Centre (L’Aquila). The event has been
promoted by the Space Academy Foundation
set up by Telespazio, Thales Alenia
Space and the University of L’Aquila.
The workshop, which is under the aegis of the Foundation’s President, Giorgio Dettori, will be opened with a welcome from the President of the Abruzzo Region, Giovanni Chiodi, and the President of the Province of L’Aquila, Stefania Pezzopane.
The aim of the Space Security workshop is to highlight the potential offered by satellite systems for the protection of critical infrastructure, laying the groundwork for advanced, integrated and interdisciplinary training in security.
The workshop sessions will explore the subject matter from the perspective of three different groups: institutions, which define the requirements of these systems, industry, which develops and builds the systems, and the operators, who intervene in the field. Discussions will cover strategies, methodologies and technologies, with a particular focus on services and space applications that can provide integrated systems development for security governance.
In the course of the workshop, the situation in Italy and Europe with regard to the issue of the EU directive on critical infrastructure in December 2008 will also be analysed. This directive is aimed at addressing the different types of risk for technology assets and the services they provide, and it describes the action that may be taken to provide concrete support for organisations, institutions and companies in the management of security governance. In this context, the focus will be on some key measures for managing Italy’s existing infrastructure assets.
Telespazio, Thales Alenia Space
and the University of L’Aquila are all
partners of the Space Academy Foundation,
whose aim is to promote the sharing
and developing of technology skills
in the space sector. The Academy should
also provide a source??7 of experience
and excellence to support a network
of know-how between industry, institutions,
universities and research organisations,
with the aim of both fostering an interdisciplinary
approach to skills in the space sector
and to bring this specific and precious
know-how “into the system”.
