Finmeccanica companies participate in Police Anniversary

Finmeccanica is participating in the 156th
State Police Anniversary (Festa
della Polizia), which will be held between
16 and 18 May in Piazza del Popolo, in Rome,
with a long schedule of ceremonies, events
and exhibitions.
Finmeccanica companies provide the Italian
State Police with technological
systems and solutions including secure and
protected communication systems, licence-plate
identification systems and satellite monitoring
services. |
Telespazio, a Finmeccanica/Thales company,
will be exhibiting its SARC
system at one of the stands organised by
the State Police. This system, which was
created on behalf of the ministry of the
Interior in partnership with other group
companies (Elsag Datamat, SELEX Communications
and SELEX Service Management) and Telecom
Italia, is used to monitor and control the
Salerno to Reggio Calabria motorway.
The SARC system, which has been operational since 2006, provides surveillance of the A3 motorway, connecting Salerno with Reggio Calabria, and 25 service areas located along the roads of southern Italy. The system can autonomously detect any dangerous occurrence in the area under surveillance, enabling the police force to act rapidly and effectively.
SARC provides continuous video surveillance through cameras and intelligent systems that can detect and signal potential alert situations, as well as traffic monitoring by automatically identifying any licence plate. The system consists of a data processing centre, two motorway operating centres and a remote monitoring and data acquisition video system. The video surveillance network includes video cameras located in every sensitive area. These can record images in real time 24 hours a day and automatically generate video streams that are sent to the control centres through a fibre optic network.
During the celebration of the Police Anniversary, one of the mobile satellite vehicles of the traffic police will be presented. This is an operational centre, set up by Telespazio, which can be located anywhere in the country and is equipped with a transmitting and receiving system.
