Telespazio takes part in the Munich Satellite Navigation Summit 2008

Telespazio, a Finmeccanica/Thales company, is to take part as a diamond sponsor in the Munich Satellite Navigation Summit, which will be held from 19-21 February in Munich, Germany. The conference, which will be attended by officials and representatives from industry and the international scientific community, is dedicated to the future of satellite navigation, with particular focus on GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), the “system of systems”, which includes EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Services) and Galileo.

Telespazio, which is heavily involved in the Galileo satellite navigation system and in the development of solutions and services based on forerunner system EGNOS, will participate at the Munich summit in some of the scheduled sessions, and will have a stand in the exhibition's display area.
Telespazio is Finmeccanica’s key operator in navigation and localisation services, and plays a crucial role in the development of the Galileo programme. One of the Control Centres that will manage the Galileo constellation and mission is being built at the Fucino Space Centre, about 100 km from Rome. The company will build one of the Signal Performance Validation Centres in Rome and will also play a leading role in the management of the Galileo Test Range, the permanent infrastructure that will support the development of the system, applications, navigation and positioning equipment.

With regard to EGNOS, Galileo’s precursor, which integrates and improves the performance of navigation systems already in existence, Telespazio has been involved for many years in the development and testing of innovative services and applications. Specifically, Telespazio coordinated the demonstration of EGNOS-assisted services in real use cases, in the frame of the European projects M-TRADE, METIS and MENTORE. The company developed applications and services for monitoring dangerous goods and radioactive waste, managing fleets of motor vehicles in urban areas (goods distribution, taxi fleets, regulated access in town centres) for goods tracking and monitoring.

Telespazio operates in Germany through two subsidiaries: Telespazio Deutschland, a company providing services and advanced technology for space operators, and GAF, which is active in services and advanced applications for the Earth observation sector.
