Glympse of the Danube

 

A detail of the meander of the river, which traces the borders between Romania and Serbia. In the Black Forest of Germany, but almost a third of its lenght lies in Romania. The COSMO-SkyMed radar image is produced using Multitemporal technology.

 Bucarest, Romania

 

The Capital of Romania captured by optical GeoEye satellite.  The Palace of the Parliament is the seat of the Parliament of Romania. Located on Dealul Arsenalului in the national capital city of central Bucharest, it is the second largest administrative building in the world, after the Pentagon.

Its volume exceeds 2% that of the Pyramid of Cheops.

Agricultural Areas

 

Agricultural areas in the North of Bucharest, shown by COSMO-SkyMed satellite. The image uses the MTC (Multi-temporal Coherence) technology. Overlapping two images, taken at different times, it is possible to detect changes in a certain area.

Vidraru Dam

 

The multitemporal radar image shows the Vidraru Dam, completed in 1966 on the Argeş river. The dum created the homonym lake.  With a height of 166 metres and an arch length of 305 meters, it can store 465 million cubic metres of water and it is a precious source of hydroelectric energy.

Dienet - Lake Răcăciuni

 

It is a protected area of national interest, located in the Southeast of Moldova, on the territory of Bacău. The image is produced by COSMO SkyMed Multitemporal technology.

Trei Iezere Lake

 

Thanks to its atmosphere and its breathtaking landscapes, Trei Iezere Lake is one of the favorite tourist destinations. The area is also popular with anglers, who can find different species of fish in the transparent waters of Trei Iezere Lake. It is also famous for its ornithological fauna, such as swans, egrets and cormorants.

Danube river

 

The Danube was once a long-standing frontier of the Roman Empire, and today flows through 10 countries.  With its 2.860 km, Danube is Europe's second longest river, after the Volga, and the longest navigable river in the European Union.

Port of Constanta

 

Thanks to its strategic position on the West Coast of the Black Sea, the Port of Constanta is a maritime and a river port, and one of the main commercial hubs of Central and Eastern Europe. In 2017, more than 58 million tons of goods passed through the port.

Sibiu


Una panoramica di Sibiu, fondata nel  1190 dai Sassoni di Transilvania. La città  è nota per l'architettura germanica del suo centro storico e vanta numerosi primati, come l’ospedale più antico della Romania (1292), la prima scuola documentata (1380) e il primo teatro (1788).

Isola di Grande Brăila

 

L’isola di Grande Brăila è lunga 57.9 km e larga 18.6 km, con un’area totale di 710 km².  Attualmente, il 94.6% della superficie è occupata da terreni agricoli. Grande Brăila ospita due comuni: Frecăţei and Mărașu, che insieme contano circa 5000 abitanti.

Delta del Danubio


Nell’immagine radar COSMO-SkyMed il delta del Danubio, che con i suoi 3446 km²  è il delta meglio conservato fra tutti i fiumi europei. Nel 1991 è stato inserito dall’UNESCO fra i siti patrimonio dell’umanità. Nei dintorni del delta vivono circa 15 000 persone.
