Support for Scientific Operations on Payloads

As well as preparing and executing operations, Telespazio PSC is also responsible for integrating payloads on board the ISS for both the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The company previously fulfilled the same role for the ESPERIA mission involving Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli.

In the shuttle mission STS-134 planned for 2010, whose objective is to transport the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer to the ISS, Telespazio is responsible for the scientific support for the use of the equipment and Roberto Vittori’s training.

Telespazio PSC will provide the necessary documentation for the use of the equipment in space and for the conduct of the experiments by the Italian astronaut. It will also prepare the training course for the astronaut using the equipment required to carry out the experimental protocols.
Lastly, Telespazio will prepare and amend the documents in order to carry out the experiments on the ground to highlight the benefits of experimenting in weightless conditions.
